Weekly Ponderings 16

Friday 1 May 2015

This week I was excited by...

Well, not that much if I'm completely honest! You may have read my last post which was basically a big old moan about what a terrible week I've had (with a few coping strategies thrown in for good measure). Luckily, a friendly invitation from the Grand Hyatt Doha pinged into my inbox early in the week and on Thursday evening I found myself at the media launch of Swiss Gastronomic Week, where I caught up with old friends, met some new lovely faces and gorged on lots and lots of cheese while listening to some pretty impressive yodelling. It was impossible to be sad after all this.

This week I was reminded...

About the sheer resilience of people when faced with tragedy. In the wake of the earthquake in Nepal at the end of last week, there have been so many wonderful stories about communities coming together for good and miracles are still occurring every day. You can read some heart-lifting stories here and here. But for every positive story, there are thousands of devastating ones. If you would like to help then The Guardian has written a great article about the ways that you can have the greatest impact.

This week I appreciated...

All of the people that offered me support this week! I have some really great friends, a wonderful support network in Doha and some rather awesome blogger mates too...you know who you are! Thank you!

  5. Just catching up on your blog now Polly, sorry to hear you had a tough week - I didn't know you were working with Nepal. It's such a tragedy, what has happened there. Gastronomic Week sounds fun, Paul is Swiss so we certainly eat lots of cheese and chocolate!

    1. Thanks so much Suze. Yes, it's a real shock and hard to come to terms with but as I said, there have also been some really lovely stories too. Haha, that sounds like a fantastic excuse if ever I heard one! :-)
