A Long Weekend In The Peak District In Pictures

Saturday, 11 April 2015

Rich and I returned to my home village last week full of excitement. Not only were we spending 3 days with my mum, stepdad and two brothers, but it was also Easter, and we were finishing off lots of bits and pieces for our wedding, while soaking up some good old British countryside air before returning to London to fly back to Doha.

For those of you that are yet to visit The Peak District, I hope these photos illustrate why you must pay a visit; why my parents have chosen these rugged hills as their home, and us as the location of our wedding; and why on our last day, I cried and cried and very nearly refused to leave.

Whenever I return to Doha after being amongst all this green, I am struck by the stark contrast. Fields and hills versus sand and dunes. Wild flowers and ancient trees versus irrigated displays and planted palms. Muddy, winding footpaths versus clean, paved walkways. I live split between two worlds of contradictions and it always takes me several days to readjust.

Miss you England.

  1. Stunning shots! I am slightly ashamed to say I haven't made it to the Peak District yet but you have now bumped it even higher up the UK to-do list :)

  3. You can't beat the feeling of being in the English Countryside! I grew up in a small Yorkshire town and as much as I hated it as a teenager, it is always SO good to go back and visit! x

    1. Haha, I totally know what you mean about hating it as a teenager - you think there's nothing to DO and then as soon as you move away you realise there's SO MUCH, you just didn't appreciate it when you lived there! Yorkshire is beautiful :-)
