Guest Post: My Favourite Hotels in England

Thursday 22 January 2015

There are so many different landscapes to admire around the world but sometimes I think it's fantastic to play the tourist in your own country. Whether it's a city break in London or a relaxing sojourn in the English countryside, I love the opportunity to spend the time appreciating my home. Best of all there's no need to fly anywhere!

When the lovely Polly asked me to guest post on her site I wanted to tell her international readers a little bit about some of my favourite hotels to stay in UK all of which offer fantastic luxury and service.

1. Coworth Park

Located in Ascot and about forty five minutes from London, Coworth Park is a beautiful manor house and one of my favourite places to stay in the UK. The decor is just gorgeous and there is a nature theme that runs throughout the hotel.

For example check out the four poster bed who's posts that imitate the branches of a tree. Just so pretty!

And the public rooms also incorporate the pretty nature theme with floral artwork and fresh flowers.

Like this daisy table....

Or the gold sculpture on the ceiling of the dining room.

But best all are the gorgeous grounds where you can enjoy lunch or afternoon tea with your loved one on a sunny day!

What also makes the hotel really exciting and different is that it has it's own horses for residents to take horse riding lessons or play polo!

2. Babington House

I love Babington House in Somerset, it's so relaxed and comfortable that it's like staying in your own home but actually it's a luxury hotel with a lovely rustic farmhouse feel.

The bar feels like your own living room and Mr Silver and I just relaxed there all day nibbling on pizza, reading the paper and enjoying a glass of wine.

In fact, everything there was about home comforts, the food in the restaurant is simple but scrummy and the cowshed spa is the perfect place to relax!

3. Ham Yard Hotel

The Ham Yard Hotel is a fun and quirky hotel in Soho. It's luxurious but very different to the super-luxe five star grand dames of London. For starters it's actually an Urban Village and when you enter off the streets of Soho you'll find yourself on cobbled streets in tree-lined garden surrounded by quaint boutiques.

The hotel is pretty big really with lots of lovely lounge areas for afternoon tea and a big restaurant serving food all day.

Don't you just love the pretty prints and eclectic mismatched furniture. Actually I really like the fact that the place is really unique and individual! And do you know the coolest thing about the it?

Downstairs the a huge and fabulously glam 1950's bowling alley! I think it would be so fun to rent it out for a group of friends for a hen party or something. It's part of the Firmdale group so if you like it, I would definitely recommend taking a look at the other hotels in the group.

4. Lime Wood, The New Forest

The New Forest is one of the most beautiful parts of the UK. It's a stunning landscape consisting of woodland, rivers and marshes and it's the perfect place to get away from the busy buzz of London.

Lime Wood is my favourite hotel in the New Forest partly due to it's beautiful contemporary design:

I mean, don't you just love the gorgeous bar?

And the beautiful clean lines on the bedroom.

Not to mention the beautiful grounds with its gorgeous pond and quirky sculptures. But best of all Lime Wood is heaven for foodies and everything is sourced locally, coming from the hotel's own garden and forest or local farms. The main restaurant by Harnett and Holder serves great British food with Italian flair and the bar provides delicious delights such as home made fish fingers! The hotel even has it's own Smokehouse where they smoke their own salmon and ham.

5. The Dorchester, London

I saved the best for last, the ultimate luxury hotel in the UK, The Dorchester. When you enter the deluxe London hotel, you are immediately struck by the incredible grandeur of the foyer. The Promenade is made up of swathing curtains, marble pillars and there are always huge and gorgeous floral displays decorating the entrance.

I've got so many fond memories of the hotel, roast dinners with my parents at the grill, a special birthday dinner at the Alain Ducasse restaurant with Mr Silver...

....but best of all...it's where I had my wedding reception! Starting from the beginning... I was lucky enough to stay the night at the hotel beforehand where my bridesmaids and I enjoyed a stunning suite, champagne and manicures before the wedding.

The morning was spent with us wrapped in soft cotton dressing gowns, a flurry of hair and make up...

Until we were the finished article....

And spirited away for the beautiful ceremony....

We soon returned to the most beautifully decorated ballroom...

And danced the night away!!

  4. I love being able to see the look and style of all of these different hotels. One thing that I love about hotels is that no tow hotels are ever the same. That is why it is always so much fun to go on vacation and find different and new hotels to stay in. Someday I would really like to travel more and be able to get experience staying in more hotels.

And finding a fabulous hotel to stay in isn't only for vacationers, but for the business traveler as well. When looking to only stay a night or two, having a spa nearby or onsite might be just what you need after a long day of meetings.
